Poliovirus: Children at risk in Balochistan

QUETTA: Polio virus was confirmed in a seven month old child in Balochistan’s Sibi district on Thursday morning. Sources in health department told Quetta Voice, the samples of the child were taken few days back and it was proved that the child was carrying the crippling virus after tests.

The sources also revealed that the family of the child had traveled from Pishin to Sibi. They termed refusal behind the case as the underlying reason. This year, the number of polio virus cases have reached three.

The emergency operation center established to eradicate polio virus had launched a comprehensive anti polio campaign in Quetta and all 33 districts of Balochistan to eradicate the virus. Over 2.4 million children below the age of five years were administered polio drops during the campaign.

The Balochistan government has already declared emergency for eradication of the crippling virus and all departments have been directed to cooperate with polio teams in this regard.
