Balochistan Assembly adopts resolution against Islands Ordinance

QUETTA: The Balochistan Assembly on Thursday evening adopted a resolution against the Islands Ordinance promulgated by President Arif Alvi. The house termed the Ordinance against the provincial autonomy. Opposition leader, Malik Sikandar Advocate tabled the resolution against the Pakistan Islands Development Authority (PIDA) Ordinance, 2020 during the session. The session of the BA resumed here with the deputy speaker Sardar Babar Musakhail in the chair.

Mir Zahoor Buledi, the Finance Minister Balochistan also backed the resolution tabled by the opposition lawmakers in the house. The parliamentary leader Awami National Asghar Achakzai also supported the opposition resolution against the Presidential Ordinance.

Speaking on the feasibility of the resolution, the opposition leader termed the Ordinance as a clear violation of provincial autonomy. “Opposition would resist such moves undermining provincial autonomy”, Malik Sikandar said.

Zahoor Buledi also supported the resolution and said, “there should be no decisions in closed doors”. He said nothing has been snatched from Balochistan in the Ordinance.

Asghar Achakzai of ANP thus asserted that the rulers first attacked the 18th amendment and now trying to snatch the resources of smaller provinces. “We will continue to raise voice for our rights”, he said.

The Balochistan National Party (Mengal) parliamentary leader Malik Naseer Ahmed Shahwani said this ordinance meant to snatch coastal resources of Balochistan. He said this ordinance would further develop an existing sense of deprivation among the people of Balochistan.

“BNP would politically guard the resources of Balochistan”, Mr. Shahwani said. Nasrullah Zarai, the legislator from Pashtoonkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) also backed the resolution and vowed to continue the struggle for provincial rights.

The chair put the resolution for voting before the house. The House adopted the resolution and demanded of the federal government to withdraw the Ordinance.
