Customs seize 4,000kg betel nuts near Sorab Balochistan

Pakistan Customs has seized 4,000kgs betel nuts near Sorab town of Balochistan on Wednesday morning. Sources in the anti-smuggling department said, custom officials seized smuggled betel nuts from trucks carrying apple. The smugglers were trying to shift betel nuts to Karachi in trucks loaded with apple belts.

Acting on a tip-off, the Customs personnel stopped the trucks and started a thorough search. During the search of the trucks, the customs persons seized 4,000kgs of betel nuts, the sources stated. The value of the seized betel nuts estimated at Rs. 10 million in the open market.

Customs also took the truck into custody. However, the driver of the truck escaped from the spot.

Smugglers have been smuggling betel nuts, tires, clothes, and other goods through various routes of Balochistan to reach different markets of the country. The goods are smuggled from neighboring Afghanistan into Pakistan at the Pak-Afghan border Chaman.
