Poliovirus: Children at risk in Balochistan

SIBI: Anti polio campaign in Balochistan’s Sibi and Harnai districts would be commenced from tomorrow. During the four day anti polio campaign, children below the age of five years would be administered polio drops.

Dr. Akbar Solangi, the district health officer Sibi said 44000 children below the age of five years in Sibi would be provided polio drops. He urged upon the parents to cooperate with polio teams and ensure provision of polio drops to their kids.

Anti polio campaign in Sibi and Harnai could not be launched on February 17th following the historic Sibi Mela. In Sibi, one polio case was reported and a seven month child was reported to be the fresh victim of polio virus. Reason behind the case was refusal on the parts of parents.

In Balochistan, the number of polio cases have reached three this year. Last year, 12 polio cases were reported in Balochistan.

Various teams have been formed to make sure provision of polio drops to children below the age of five years.
