Mastung: Quetta Karachi highway blocked against low gas pressure
From Our Correspondent
Angry protesters blocked the Quetta-Karachi highway against low gas pressure and gas load shedding near Mastung district of Balochistan. Women and children were also among the protesters who blocked the national highway.
Levies sources said residents of Kalozai and Choto came on the highway. The protesters blocked the highway to press the authorities to ensure proper gas supply to the villages of Mastung. “Aged people, women and children are the worst sufferers”, Bibi Gul, one of the protesters covering her face lamented. She said people were suffering because of chilly weather in the area.
Quetta and various parts of Balochistan under the grip of chilly weather
Quetta and other parts of Balochistan are under the grip of chilly weather for last more than two weeks. Low gas pressure and gas load shedding have compounded the problems of the masses.
“We are here to protest against load shedding”, Jamil Ahmed, another protester said. He warned that the protest would be intensified if the authorities failed to provide proper gas supply to the villages of Mastung.
Long queues of vehicles including passenger buses were witnessed during the blockade of the road. The passengers suffered because of continued protest. The district administration Mastung repeatedly requested the protesters to end their protest and open the road for traffic.
“We are not going to use any force against the protesters”, a levies official said. He requested anonymity. He said the administration was trying to convince them to peacefully end their protest against low gas pressure.
The protest has come two days after the Balochistan High Court (BHC) had directed the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) officials to ensure uninterrupted gas supply to Balochistan. The court had also directed the officials to look into the issue of heavy bills of the gas company in the province.
