QUETTA: Over 3000 Zaireen (Shia pilgrims) have been quarantined at Pak-Iran border Taftan to halt the spread of corona virus in the country. Pakistan’s border with Iran at Taftan remained closed on 14th consecutive day by the authorities. The border was closed with Iran in the aftermath of corona virus outbreak in neighboring Iran in late February.
The Zaireen would be allowed to move towards their homes after completion of their quarantine period, Najeeb Qambrani, a senior administration official said. He said all facilities were provided to the Zaireen at the quarantine center.
All trade and business activities with Iran have been suspended following the spread of corona virus in Iran. The deadly virus has claimed 127 lives in Iran and the number of corona affected people has reached around 5000.
Ejaz Sanjrani, an officer of the provincial disaster management authority said necessary goods for Zaireen reached Taftan in C-130 plane. He said blankets, masks and food were also being provided to Zaireen at the quarantine center. An immigration officer who declined to be named since he was not authorized to speak to media told Quetta Voice that during last six days 4000 Zaireen have arrived at Taftan border. He said the immigration officials were thoroughly checking their health documents and screening record.
Pakistan has also shut down its border with Afghanistan at friendship gate Chaman. All trade and business activities at Chaman border are suspended following the closure of the border. Corona virus cases have also been reported in Afghanistan, which prompted Pakistan to close its border.
