Only 2 out of a total of10 passenger trains operating from Balochistan

QUETTA: Only 2 out of a total of 10 passenger trains have been operating from Balochistan for the last few years. The business community has expressed serious concern over the non-functioning of passenger trains from Balochistan to other parts of the country.
“Thousands of people used to travel through passenger trains”, Haji Akhtar Kakar, the Vice President Balochistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) said.
Mr. Kakar has written a letter to the Federal Minister for Railways to bring the matter to the latter’s notice. Despite repeated attempts, the Quetta Voice was not able to get an official opinion about the issue.
Earlier 10 trains were operating from Balochistan
Earlier, 10 trains including 1- Abaseen Quetta to Peshawar, 2-Sibi Khost section, 3- Mehran Passenger Quetta to Karachi, 4- Quetta to Zahidan, 5- Balochistan Express from Quetta-Karachi, 6-Chiltan Express from Quetta to Karachi, 7- Bolan Mail and 8-Akbar Express have been closed for unknown reasons.
Only Jaffar Express and Chaman Express operating
However, 2 trains including Jaffar Express and Quetta-Chaman trains have been operating.
Balochistan shares a border with two neighboring countries i.e. Iran and Afghanistan. Moreover, the Pakistan railway has completely ignored the province and its people, Mr. Kakar lamented in the letter addressed to the federal ministry.
In the past, most of the people used to travel by train to reach various parts of the country. It was the cheapest mood of travelling across Pakistan. The business community was also using goods train as a cheaper means for trade purposes.
