NAB Balochistan unearths mega corruption scandal in Fisheries

QUETTA: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Balochistan unearthed a mega corruption scandal in the Fisheries department. NAB has filed a reference against 19 accused involved in corruption of Rs. 1 billion in the Fisheries department, the Spokesman of the anti-corruption bureau said on Thursday.

Chairman NAB, Justice (R) Javed Iqbal had given the approval of investigation into the mega corruption scandal in the Fisheries. The company owners had inflicted a financial loss of Rs.  1 billion to the national exchequer through fake bank certificates, fake insurance, etc, he mentioned.

NAB files reference against former secretary fisheries, DG 

After a thorough investigation, NAB has filed a reference against former secretary fisheries, director-general fisheries, and officers of the fisheries department, the Spokesman said.

During the investigation, it revealed that the accused had granted contracts to companies, which were not registered with the marines department for the purchase of patrol boats, vessel monitoring system, etc.

NAB arrested the former secretary of fisheries and director-general fisheries. After investigation from the accused, NAB expanded the scale of investigation and filed a reference against all 19 accused in the case. NAB Balochistan has stepped up efforts against the corrupt elements in Quetta and other parts of the province.
