Balochistan employees protest: Polio campaign postpones for second time

In Balochistan, the government has suspended the anti-polio campaign for the second time because of ongoing protests by employees. The Balochistan government had delayed the scheduled campaign on March 29 as a result of agitation by the employees earlier.
“We have decided to postpone April 5 campaign, an official of the health department said. He requested anonymity. “The campaign to begin from April 7 now”, the official mentioned.
Polio drops to children under the age of five years
During the anti-polio campaign, polio drops would be provided to over 2.4 million children under the age of five years. The health department, UNICEF, WHO would launch the campaign in all 34 districts of the province. All arrangements made but employees’ protest caused the suspension, the health official said. “We are in close contact with official high ups to ensure launching the campaign on April 7”, he mentioned.
Government employees protesting for the last 7 days
Government employees have been protesting for the last seven days in support of their demands in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province. The protesting employees have blocked all main roads leading towards the Red Zone housing the Governor’s house and Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Balochistan has reported one polio case during the year 2021. The case reported from Balochistan’s Killa Abdullah district. Quetta, Pishin, and Killa Abdullah districts are the most vulnerable and sensitive districts regarding the crippling virus.

Balochistan reported 26 cases of the crippling virus during the year 2020. Most of the cases reported from the Quetta, Killa Abdullah, and Pishin districts of Balochistan. Sources in the Balochistan health department informed that the anti-polio campaign would underway for seven days in Quetta, Pishin, and Killa Abdullah. However, in the rest of the districts, the campaign would on for four days.
