Sardar Bahadur Khan (SBK) women’s university would remain closed after the outbreak of the third wave of COVID19. Academic activities would remain suspended from April 15 to 30th of April, a notification issued by the SBK said on Wednesday.
Students to be taught through online classes
The university would however keep continuing teaching students through online classes, the notification mentioned. The administrative section of the university would also remain closed.
The SBK administration has made this decision in the aftermath of the sad demise of Dr. Shaista, an assistant professor of the women’s university. The dead body of Dr. Shaista found in the hostel of the SBK. Initial investigation suggests, the female professor had contracted the novel coronavirus, Azhar Akram, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police told Quetta Voice.
Over 10,000 female students studying in the SBK
SBK is Balochistan’s first and only women’s university. Currently, over 10,000 female students from various parts of Balochistan are studying in the university located in the Western outskirt of Quetta city. The university established during former president General (R) Pervez Musharraf’s rule is imparting education to female students of the province.
Terrorists targeted the university in June 2013
Terrorists had also targeted the university in June 2013. A female suicide bomber blew herself up inside the SBK killing female students and teachers. Despite threats and intimidation, the brave teachers and students of the Wome Univesity kept continued their studies. Since then, the security inside the university is tight.
