Quetta: Crackdown against tinted glasses vehicles on cards
Editorial :
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Quetta, Muhammad Azhar Akram has announced to launch a crackdown against unregistered and vehicles with tinted glasses in the city.
Addressing a news conference at his office the other day, he said a crackdown would also be launched against non-custom paid vehicles and unregistered rickshaws.
Indeed, indiscriminate action against unregistered and vehicles with tinted glasses has been one of the longstanding demands of the masses. Masses of Balochistan in general and citizens of Quetta, in particular, are fed up with luxury vehicles with tinted glasses, hooters unauthorized flags.
The number of unregistered rickshaws also grows
“The number of unregistered rickshaws continues to increase”, the Deputy Police Chief said. He said strict action would be taken against the elements roaming in non-customs paid vehicles in the city.
This announcement on the part of the Deputy Police Chief of Quetta has come after a division bench of the Balochistan High Court (BHC) dismayed over the performance of Inspector General of Police and Additional Chief Secretary (Home).
“We are left with no option, but to issue, show cause notices”, the bench mentioned
“In such pathetic circumstances, we are left with no option, but to show cause notices to the IGP, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Balochistan, Deputy Commissioner Quetta, and other concerned quarters.
The bench also issued notices to the Registrar BHC, secretary provincial assembly, principal secretary to the Chief Minister, and other officers to appear in person on the next date of the hearing. Most of such vehicles are also used in subversive activities in the province.
States institutions, not individuals have the right to carry weapons
States institutions, not individuals have the right to carry weapons. It is an irony of fate that the display of arms and ammunition in this part of the country has become so common. More bodyguards, more weapons, and luxury vehicles with tinted glasses are considered crucial for social and political status.
This is unacceptable. Law should take its course. Police have to abide by the orders of the court and make sure implementation of the law with regard to the display of arms and ammunition and tinted glasses.
