Pakistan’s leading media channel, Geo has suspended its contract with Khalil ur Rehman Qamar after the latter’s abusive language in a TV program against well-known human rights activist Marvi Sarmad.
Mr. Qamar had used an abusive language against Marvi Sarmad during a live program at Neo TV regarding the AuratAzadiMarch. The video of his abusive language against Marvi Sarmad went viral on social media, prompting harsh response from political, civil society and social media activists. They condemned Mr. Qamar’s abusive language and him to seek forgiveness.
The Geo TV in a statement said the contract of Mr. Qamar for four dramas have been suspended until he apologies publicly to Marvi Sarmad. In response, Mr. Qamar also tweeted that Geo has suspended his contract following his remarks against the famous women activist.
There was a mounting pressure on the part of social media activists and some political figures on Geo to cancel its contract with Mr. Qamar.
