QUETTA: Angry protesters ransacked a quarantine center in Quetta’s Western bypass on Wednesday morning. The protesters set record of the center on fire and damaged a portion of the center. The Balochistan government had established a quarantine center for pilgrims coming from Iran into Pakistan.

Pakistan  has shifted hundreds of pilgrims coming from into Pakistan at Taftan border to Quetta to quarantine them. Police have lodged FIR against unknown miscreants involved in ransacking of the quarantine center. Muhammad Aslam, a police official said five accused involved in ransacking and damaging of the quarantine center were arrested by police on Wednesday.

Dozens of residents of the area came on roads in RDA-Colony area of Western Bypass to vent their anger against the establishment of the center. “This center will cause the spread of the corona  virus in our area”, Muhammad Arif one of the protesters told Quetta Voice. He said the pilgrims from Iran were carrying corona virus and we will not tolerate their  presence here.

Mr. Arif feared that after establishment of the center, the government would ask us to leave our homes, the charge vehemently denied by the officials.

Pakistan had closed its border with Iran on February 23rd to halt the spread of deadly virus in the country.
