Police detained over 50 male and female students outside Quetta Press Club when students staged a protest demonstration. All students have been released from the city police station and other police stations, a senior police officer who declined to be named confirmed to daily the Quetta Voice via phone. Students were shifted to various police stations in the city. The arrests of students were widely condemned by political parties, civil society and people belonging to various walks of life when their videos of arrests went viral on social media.

“No students were arrested, it was a quarrel among police and students”, chief minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan tweeted. The chief minister also announced the removal of the Superintendent of Police city for mishandling the issue.
