14 Security Personnel Martyred in a terror attack near Gwadar

At least 7 Frontier Corps (FC) personnel and 7 guards of an oil company martyred in a terrorist attack near Ormara area of Gwadar district on Thursday, security sources said. The FC personnel were guarding a convoy of an oil and gas exploration company when attacked by terrorists. The incident happened on the Coastal Highway near Ormara, they said. During the clash, substantial losses were also incurred to the terrorists, the military’s media wing said. As a result of this encounter, 7 x Brave soldiers of FC Balochistan and 7 x Security guards sacrificed their lives and embraced shahadat, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The terrorists opened indiscriminate firing on the convoy of the company. All staff members of the company remained safe in the attack. Police, Levies, and personnel of the FC reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan has strongly condemned the terror attack. “It means the enemy does not want development of Balochistan”, he tweeted. Finance Minister Balochistan, Zahoor Buledi has also strongly condemned the incident.

6 martyred during 2019 near Gwadar

In April 2019, 14 people including 11 Pakistan Navy personnel martyred in a terrorist attack in the Buzi pass area of Ormara of Gwadar. An alliance for three banned Baloch militant organizations had claimed the responsibility for the attack.

In March 2004, three Chinese engineers killed in a terrorist attack in Gwadar. The vehicle of Chinese engineers targeted through a car bomb in Pakistan’s port city. Pakistan has built a multi-billion dollar project, the Gwadar Deep Sea Port with the financial and technical assistance of Chian.

Security tightened in the coastal belt 

Since then Pakistan has tightened security in the port city of Gwadar and on the coastal belt to avoid terror acts. Apart from the police, para-military troops have also been deployed in the coastal belt and Gwadar to maintain law and order situation.

China is working on a number of projects in Pakistan’s southwestern Balochistan province. Ethnic Baloch rebels have carried low-scale bomb explosions against the Pakistani security forces during the last two decades.
