Killa Saifullah: Girl killed for marrying of her choice

A young girl killed in Balochistan’s Killa Saifullah district for marrying of her choice on Tuesday. Levies sources said the killer was the brother of the victim. The accused Attaullah opened fire on the girl in presence of the Jirga (tribal gathering) and killed his sister on the spot. The dead body of the girl shifted to the district headquarters hospital in Killa Saifullah for postmortem. She had suffered bullet injuries, hospital sources said.
Levies arrest the killer for killing sisterĀ
Levies quickly acted and arrested the accused for killing his sister. The girl wanted to marry of her choice against the permission of her family members. This provoked the enraged brother who opened fire on her in presence of a tribal jirga. The Jirga held to sort out the issue amicably.
The killer belongs to the Pishin district of Balochistan province, Levies stated. As per the statistics shared by the UN Women Sub-Office Quetta, 16 women have been killed during the current year in the name of ‘honor’.
“Such incidents continue to rise in society”, Allauddin Khilji, the provincial chief of Aurat Foundation said. In Balochistan, most of the violent acts against women go unnoticed as tribal taboos and poor governance remained obstacles in reporting.
Two Women, Two Men killed a few days backĀ
This incident has come a few days after two women and two men killed in the name of honor killings in Balochistan Naseerabad and Pishin districts. In Naseerabad district, a father opened fire and shot dead his 18-year old daughter in the name of honor.
Ayesha Wadood, the head of the UN-Women Sub-Office in Quetta said incidents of violence against women have increased. “During the COVID19, violent acts against women increased”, she said.
