BUITEMS Alumni got 1st position in Wildlife photography

Mayen Khan, an Alumni of the Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS)  got the first position in “Mountain Bio-Diversity” on the eve of international mountain day. Mayen Khan’s 3 minutes short documentary titled “Balochistan- A lost Wilderness” presented at the short documentary contest on December 11, 2020.

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) had organized the contest. “Photography is the best way to get people connected with the natural world”, the BUITEMS Alumni told Quetta Voice. Photography can inspire a love of wildlife and a desire to protect it, Mr. Khan mentioned.

Many endangered animals currently at the risk of extinction in Balochistan

Many endangered animals in Balochistan are at the risk of extinction. Mayen is using the tool of visual communication to address the environmental and wildlife issues in Balochistan through photography. “A picture speaks a million words”, Mr. Khan said while referring to the impact of photography.

His main objective, behind wildlife photography, is to snap the endangered species of Balochistan and acquire the feed-back of local communities regarding the conservation of species that are on the brink of extinction.

“Awareness among people can ensure sustainable use of natural resources”, Mr. Khan noted.

He sends his utmost gratitude to all the people that helped him in achieving this goal, which includes people at Balochistan Forest and Wildlife Department, WWF-Pakistan, his teachers and mentors at BUITEMS and University of Balochistan, and members of the local communities that accompanied him on his trips.

BUITEMS, one of the prestigious educational organizations from Balochistan ranked one of the 600 top universities of Asia. The populous continent houses thousands of universities. Most of them are located in China and India.
