Landslide kills 2 miners in Harnai Balochistan

Landsliding has killed 2 coal miners in Balochistan’s Harnai district on Sunday. Levies sources said the miners were working deep inside the mine in the Khost area of Harnai district when a landslide hit them. Both miners died on the spot, levies said.

Laborers from nearby mines rushed toward the mine and recovered 3 miners alive, they informed. They are in stable condition, levies mentioned. The miners retrieved the dead bodies from deep inside the mine. The victims belonged to the Shangla area of Swat Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. They were identified as Adil Shah and Iftikhar Ahmed.

The dead bodies shifted to a nearby basic health unit and moved towards their ancestral area for burial in ambulances.

Hazardous working conditions claimed thousands of miners lives

Hazardous working conditions inside coal mines of Balochistan have claimed the lives of thousands of miners. Such incidents are almost the order of the day in the coal mines of Dukki, Khost, Harnai, Mach, Sorange, and other parts of Balochistan.

“Such incidents are everyday happening”, Bakht Nawab, an office-bearer of Balochistan mines association said. He demanded of the government to provide better facilities to the miners and ensure their safety.

Balochistan houses rich coal-reservoirs in Bolan Mach, Sorange Quetta, Dukki, Chamalang, and other parts of the province. Thousands of laborers have been extracting coal from inside mines. Most of the laborers belong to Swat, Shangla, Toba Kakari and some parts of volatile southern Afghanistan.
