Hazara Town Quetta: Funeral prayer of slain miners offered

Funeral prayer of slain coal miners offered amid grief and sorrows in Quetta’s Hazara town area on Saturday. A large number of people belonging to the ethnic Shia Hazara community participated in the funeral.

Deputy Speaker National Assembly, Qasim Suri, special assistant to the Prime Minister, Zulfi Bukhari, an adviser to the Chief Minister Balochistan on sports, Abdul Khaliq Hazara, member provincial assembly, Qadir Nail, Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, Syed Agha Raza, Allama Hashim Mosvi and others participated in the funeral.

Strict security measures adopted by the administration on the occasion of the funeral of coal miners. Apart from the Police, the personnel of the Frontier Corps (FC) also deployed to maintain order. Hazara town area almost completely guarded and cordoned off to avert any untoward incident.

The armed accused had kidnapped and killed 11 coal miners in Balochistan’s Mach area seven days back. The killing sparked protests across Pakistan with protesters demanding the arrest of culprits involved in the incident.

Hazara community staged a 6-days long sit-in 

However, the ethnic Shia Hazara community staged 6-days long sit-in to mount pressure on the authorities to arrest the killers and accept their demands. In chilly harsh weather, women and children were also part of the sit-in staged by the community in the Western outskirts of Quetta. The protesters refused to bury the slain miners for six days.

However, chief minister Balochistan, Jam Kamal Khan held negotiations with the protesters. And subsequently, the protesters agreed to end the sit-in and agreed to bury the slain miners. Jam Kamal while speaking on the occasion assured that Prime Minister Imran Khan would also visit Quetta and meet the heirs of the victims soon after the funeral prayer and burial.
