TF, WFP launch cash distribution program in district Lasbela

In this difficult and testing time of Covid 19, World Food Programme (WFP) has launched a massive package to provide relief to 4’741 affected Households of District Lasbela, Balouchistan. Through this “unconditional relief assistance” WFP aims to contribute towards the stabilization of the food security situation among the vulnerable community. For this initiative, WFP has partnered with Taraqee Foundation which is actively helping marginalized segments in the Balouchistan region.
In this context, Taraqee Foundation arranged a ceremony to highlight the initiative of cash distribution among the daily wagers and food-insecure people of 6 union councils of Lasbela at Circuit House, Uthal, Balouchistan. A total sum of 22 crores rupees is being disbursed among 4741 families through a monthly installment of 7500 Rupees per household.

A 15-member media delegation visit the area 

A 15-member delegation of media persons from Karachi and the Pakistan Council of Media Women visited to learn the details of this project. Renowned environmentalist and social activist Mr. Faiz Kakar, PFUJ senior leader Mr. Shazada Zulfiqar, Taraqee Foundation Project Manager Mr. Essa Saleem, Sardar Qurban Gharsheen, and other prominent people from Quetta also attended the event.
Briefing the participants, Mr. Amjad Rasheed, CEO Taraqee Foundation said that in collaboration with the Government of Pakistan, TF has been providing relief to underprivileged segments of society country wide. TF also plays an active role to reach out to affected people in disasters and natural calamities. The major population lives below the poverty line. Therefore, TF aims to provide economic support to the most vulnerable and poor households and to revive or maintain some level of economic activity, developing resilience, and also combat the COVID pandemic in an effective manner.
Further emphasizing the role of TF in the region’s progress and development, Mr. Amjad Rasheed said that the basic mission of TF is to help the provincial and Federal governments in eradicating poverty. TF also focuses on water scarcity issues, environmental, health, and education issues.
Mr. Amjad further added that WFP is striving in pandemic COVID to provide relief to the most vulnerable people (daily wagers/jobless) in areas identified as hotspots through VAM assessments.
