Shutter down strike observed as Asad Achakzai laid to rest in Chaman

Shutter down strike observed in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan against the murder of Awami National Party (ANP) leader Asad Khan Achakzai on Sunday. All shops, markets, and business centers remained closed in Quetta and other parts of the province.

In Chaman: thousands of people turned out to mourn the killing of Asad Achakzai. Funeral prayer of the ANP leader offered in Chaman. ANP Balochistan President, Asghar Khan Achakzai, provincial ministers, Zamarak Khan Achakzai, Malik Naeem Khan Bazai, and others participated in the funeral prayer. Addressing the mourners, Asghar Achakzai demanded punishment for the killer of Asad Achakzai.

“The killer is already in the custody of the police, the accused has to be trialed fairly”, Mr. Achakzai said.

Strike also observed in other parts of Balochistan 

Shutter down strike also observed in Chaman, Pishin, Killa Abdullah, Zhob, Harnai, Loralai, and other Pashtoon-dominated areas of Balochistan. The Balochistan government had adopted strict security measures to maintain the law and order situations on the eve of the strike.

The flow of traffic remains thin

In Quetta, the flow of traffic remains thin as a result of the shutter down strike. ANP had given a call of shutter down strike to mourn the killing of its leader. Other political groups and the traders’ community have backed the call for the strike.

Police had found the decomposed dead body of the ANP leader from the Nohsar area of Quetta on Saturday evening. The Deputy Inspector General  (DIG) of Police, Muhammad Azhar Akram in the late-night press conference said police have arrested the killer of Asad Achakzai.
