Senator Abdul Qadir joins PTI

ISLAMABAD: Independent Senator from Balochistan, Abdul Qadir joined the ruling Pakistan Tehrik e Insaf (PTI) on Tuesday. The Senator called on Prime Minister Imran Khan and formally announced joining the ruling party.

Abdul Qadir elected from Balochistan as an independent Senator in the recently held elections from the upper house. Senator Saifullah Niazi and federal defense minister, Pervez Khattak were also present on the occasion.

Qadir got 11 votes in Senate elections

Mr. Qadir got 11 votes from the Balochistan Assembly and elected on a general seat for the upper house. The ruling coalition comprising Balochistan Awami Party (BAP), PTI and other coalition partners backed the independent candidate.

The PTI had earlier awarded a ticket to Abdul Qadir. However, mounting political pressure within the party prompted PM Imran Khan to take the ticket back from Abdul Qadir. PTI then awarded a ticket to Syed Zahoor Agha as a senator on a general seat.

However, Mr. Agha also withdrew from the candidacy after the submission of nomination papers.
