Quetta: Teachers protest against delay in issuance of orders

The teachers recruited under the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) staged a protest demonstration on Thursday in Quetta. The teachers blocked the road against persistent delay in the issuance of permanent appointment orders.

“Despite assurances, the department is not issuing our orders”, Fehmida, a protesting female student said. The protesting female and male teachers blocked the main Edhi Chowk leading towards the Chief Minister Balochistan’s Secretariat. The blockade of the road caused the worst traffic jam in the city.

Over 1,400 female teachers recruited through GPE in Balochistan 

Over 1,400 female teachers recruited through a testing service under the GPE project during 2015. Under the agreement, the Balochistan government had agreed to make around 1,000 girls’ schools functional and regularize the teachers.

Minister and Secretary assured appointment orders 

“We will issue them orders within a week”, Sher Khan Bazai, the Secretary of education Balochistan said earlier. He said the minister of education has already assured and that the final summary for appointment would be approved by the Chief Minister Balochistan.

Protesters chanted slogans

The protesters chanted full-throated slogans against the provincial government and education department for the continued delay in the issuance of orders. “We want justice”, “Issue our appointment orders”, “Implement your promises“, etc during the protest.

Senior administration officials reached the spot and requested the protesters to end the sit-in. The assistant commissioner Quetta city and other high ups assured the protesters that their concern would be conveyed to the high ups.

The protesting teachers peacefully dispersed after the assurance of the administration.
