Over 1,400 female teachers have been protesting for the issuance of permanent orders for the last more than two weeks. The protesting teachers had ended their strike outside Quetta Press Club following an assurance by the Balochistan education minister, Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind. Over 1,400 female teachers recruited through GPE in Balochistan Over 1,400 female teachers recruited through a testing service under the GPE project during 2015. Under the agreement, the Balochistan government had agreed to make around 1,000 girls’ schools functional and regularize the teachers.

Female teachers staged a protest demonstration outside the Balochistan Assembly on Monday evening. One female teacher slightly injured as a result of a clash with lady policewomen deployed outside the assembly.

The protesting female teachers staged a protest demonstration outside Balochistan Assembly to press the authorities to issue them permanent orders.

Earlier: Female teachers demanded of the Balochistan government to issue them permanent orders. Despite rainfall and cold weather, dozens of female teachers gathered outside the Quetta Press Club to press the authorities for permanent orders.

“We are protesting for the last five days”, Farzana, a female teacher from Quetta said. She said despite repeated assurances, the education department has not issued them permanent orders.

1,500 teaches recruited by GPE

Around 1,500 teachers most of them female recruited under the Global Partnership for Education (GPE) program in Balochistan in 2015. The Balochistan government had made 1,000 girls schools across the province after the appointment of female teachers.

“Our contract orders expired and we are not receiving any salary for the last few months”, Samina bibi, another female teacher from Khuzdar lamented. The teachers were also carrying their children during the protest demonstration outside QPC.

The government had agreed to pay salaries to teachers 

The government had agreed with GPE that it would pay the salaries of the employees after the expiry of the project in Balochistan. However, the provincial government has recently turned down the request of teachers for payment of salaries.

Balochistan education minister, Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind had visited the camp of protesting female teachers and assured them permanent orders almost a month ago.

Despite assurances, no orders 

“Despite assurances by the Minister, we are not getting any order”, Farana, a teacher from Khuzdar complained. She said all the teachers recruited through the National Testing Service (NTS) five years back on merit throughout the province.

Sources in the Balochistan education department however said the issue of teachers’ permanent order tabled before the provincial cabinet. “Hopefully, the provincial cabinet would grant approval of the appointment of teachers”, they said.
