World Water Day: More water reservoirs needed: Governor Balochistan

QUETTA: Governor Balochistan, Justice (R) Amanullah Khan Yaseenzai has called for more water reservoirs to cope with the issue of scarcity of water in the province. “There is a dire need of a comprehensive strategy to tackle water scarcity crisis”, the Governor said.
The Balochistan Rural Support Program (BRSP) had organized a function on the occasion of World Water Day. German Consul General, Mr. Hogler Ziegler, Public Health Engineering (PHE) Minister, Noor Muhammad Dumar, former Senator Roshan Khursheed Bharucha, BRSP Chief Nadir Gul Bareech, Saleh Muhammad Nasar, and others also participated in the function.
Quetta, other parts of Balochistan facing the issue of depleting water table
The Governor mentioned that Quetta and other parts of Balochistan were facing the issue of depleting the water table. “Construction of dams imperative to maintain the depleting water table”, he said.
Various parts of northern, western, and central Balochistan are facing drought hit-like situation this year because of low rainfall. Environmentalists have already warned about the intensity of the water scarcity issue in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan.
“There has to be an appropriate use of water”, Mr. Yaseenzai said.
Environmentalists fear migration from Quetta
Other speakers also shed light on the issue of water shortage in Balochistan and underlined the importance of the construction of delay and check dams to overcome the issue. Most areas of Balochistan depend on underground water for drinking and agriculture purposes. The environmentalists have also warned of migration from Quetta city if the government failed to take steps for maintaining the depleting water table.
