IHC dismays over NIC blocking of Hafiz Hamdullah

News Desk :

Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday dismayed over the blocking of the national identity card (NIC) of former senator Hafiz Hamdullah. The court directed the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) to end a ban on the appearance of the former lawmaker in television talk shows.

The court declared the order of NADRA regarding the cancellation of NIC null and void and termed it beyond its jurisdiction. Chief Justice IHC, Mr. Justice Athar Minullah dismayed over the order of NADRA regarding blocking of the lawmaker’s NIC.

“NADRA cannot directly show report of intelligence agencies “, the court observed. The CJ IHC pointed out that intelligence agencies are subservient to any ministry and division.

“If you block NIC for one day, it has impacts”, Justice Athar Minullah told NADRA.

It may be mentioned here that NADRA had blocked the NIC of former senator Hafiz Hamdullah in October 2019 and PEMRA had also instructed TV channels not to invite him in talk shows.
