Balochistan opposition ends 14-day protest inside police station

Balochistan opposition members ended their 14-day protest inside the police station on Sunday morning. Home Minister Balochistan, Mir Ziaullah Langove reached the police station and handed over the notification for dropping cases against opposition members.
“Now, we are calling off our protest”, Malik Sikandar Advocate, the Opposition leader in Balochistan Assembly said. However, Sanaullah Baloch of the Balochistan National Party (Mengal) said, ‘struggle for justice would continue.
Supporters of opposition parties received the protesting legislators outside the police station. “Our protest will end here rather we will continue our struggle”, Malik Naseer Shahwani, the parliamentary leader of the BNP said.
Opposition had offered voluntary arrests at police station on June 21
Opposition members in Balochistan Assembly offered voluntary arrests at Bijli road police station on June 21st. Over 17 members from the opposition benches walked from Balochistan Assembly to the police station to offer arrests.
Opposition’s arrests have come after the registration of the First Information Report (FIR) against its members. The opposition also filed an application under article 22-A of the Constitution for registration of FIR against Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan and police officers for using what assert force against them on June 18.
A clash between opposition and police
A clash between opposition members and police had left three legislators injured on June 18. The opposition supporters had laid siege of the assembly on the eve of the budget for the financial year 2021-2022.
PSDP major bone of contention
The Public Sector Development Program (PSDP) has been a major bone of contention between the government and opposition members. The opposition has accused the government of ignoring their constituencies in terms of funds allocations. However, the government has vehemently denied this allegation.
“Government has allocated billions to unelected people”, Malik Sikandar Advocate, the opposition leader said.
