Kandahar Shia Mosque bombing claims 32 lives

CHAMAN: At least 32 people were killed in a deadly bombing at a Shia mosque in Kandahar province of Afghanistan on Friday. The blast also injured 53 people, Kandahar police sources said.

Rescue workers brought 32 dead bodies and 53 injured to the hospital in the Southern city, police sources said. The blast was heard far and wide in Kandahar, causing panic.

The explosion has caused casualties, Qari Saeed Khosti, a Taliban official in Kabul said. Emergency imposed in the hospital to provide medical treatment to injured of the blast. Over a dozen injured were stated to be in critical condition after the blast.

Khosti said authorities were collecting details of the explosion.

“We are saddened to learn that an explosion took place in a mosque of the Shia brotherhood in the first district of Kandahar city in which a number of our compatriots were martyred and wounded,” he said in a tweet.

“Special forces of the Islamic Emirate have arrived in the area to determine the nature of the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.” Photographs posted by journalists on social media showed many people apparently dead or seriously wounded on the floor of the mosque.
