Child dies after falling in gutter at BMC hospital, parents demand justice

QUETTA: Parents of a child who died after falling in an open gutter at the Bolan Medical Complex Hospital (BMCH) have demanded justice. A three-year-old child identified as Ashkan Ali fell and died in an open gutter at the province’s largest government-run hospital on Wednesday.

“We want justice”, Mehboob Ali, the father of the child demanded at a news conference at Quetta Press Club on Thursday evening. The child had come to the hospital on November 16 and CCTV footage shows the child playing in the corridor, the Spokesman of the BMCH said in a statement.

Mehboob Ali, the broken father of the child has demanded action against the hospital administration for their failure to stop the incident. “It is beyond imagination that gutters are open inside the hospital”, Mr. Ali lamented.

News of the tragic incident widely shared on social media

The news of the incident of the child falling inside the gutter was widely shared on social media by people belonging to various walks of life. People have also strongly criticized the hospital administration for its failure to cover the gutters located in the heart of the province’s largest government-run hospital.

“For 15 minutes, the kid was playing in the corridor and then suddenly went towards the lawn”, he said referring to the CCTV footage record. “There are no CCTV cameras on the lawn and we don’t have information about the child falling inside the gutter”, he added.

CM Balochistan takes notice of the incident

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Abdul Quddus Bizenjo also took notice of the incident and directed the health department to properly probe the untoward incident. He directed the concerned authorities to submit a report in this regard.

The Medical Superintendent of the BMCH, Dr. Noorullah Musakhail established an inquiry committee to investigate the incident. He also suspended two concerned staff members for their negligence.
