Balochistan Board Scandal
Editorial :
Earlier, there were irregularities in granting numbers to blue-eyed students. This time, complete examination centers are on sale in the Balochistan Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BBISE). This daily had reported massive fraud in granting numbers to students by BBISE.
The education department formed a committee to probe into the violation of merit, granting extra numbers to students and irregularities in the examinations. The inquiry committee comprising senior officers conducted two raids at the BBISE. A forensic expert from the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was also part of the committee raiding the office.
However, after three days of the raid, the head of the inquiry committee, Secretary Higher Education, Bashir Ahmed Bangulzai was removed from the post. This indeed gives more questions than answers. Why an officer who had launched this investigation was transferred at the eleventh hour? Was this an administrative decision or mounting pressure from the mafia within the BBISE? Mr. Bangulzai hardly completed two months as the Secretary.
Ample examples of students spending sleepless nights failing to get the right marks
Balochistan Board had recently declared more than 90 percent of students successful in FA, FSc examinations. It is next to impossible that a province, which is lagging behind all other provinces in terms of education will make sure such a pass ratio. So many students scored more than 1,000 marks. There are ample examples that students who spent sleepless nights scored less than the blue-eyed and influential ones.
Examinations have an important role in the process of learning and in the whole educational institution. Tests and exams are the best to assess, what students have learned in educational institutions.
Giving a clean chit to students is not any support to them
Giving a clean chit to students is not any support to them. Rather it is a lifelong weakness. The province is already lagging behind in the quality of education as compared to sister provinces. The BBISE’s role is crucial when it comes to the quality of education.
Besides Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo, it is also the responsibility of Chief Secretary Mathar Niaz Rana to take notice of this fraud and let the officials complete the inquiry. All speed breakers in the way of the inquiry team need to be removed.
