Brave daughter of Balochistan defeats cancer through education

“Cancer like fatal disease failed to break my determination to get an education”, Izba Khattak, a 22-year old student tells this scribe after getting her degree from the Chancellor. Izba Khattak has graduated from Balochistan University of Information Technology Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) Quetta with 67% marks in Information Technology (IT).

“This is the happiest movement of my life”, Izba said with a smiling face. Izba received her degree from Balochistan Governor Syed Zahoor Agha on January 15, this year, at the convocation of the University.

Izba’s elder sister Farina Khattak told that doctors diagnosed Izba with leukemia cancer in 2016 when she was in her second year of intermediate. The doctor said that Izba has leukemia cancer which is a type of blood cancer. Doctors told her family that the cancer is in the first stage but it will take 7 years for treatment.

Despite odds, Izba kept continued struggle

Despite this news, Izba did not stop attending college and completed her intermediate with first division. Due to Izba’s medical condition, her family barred her from taking admission to any university, but in order to quench her thirst for knowledge, Izba entered the Department of Information Technology against the wishes of her family.

Izba tod, “I did not make my illness a disability and I worked hard to prove that if the intentions are strong then every difficulty becomes easier”.

Izba says that during the years of education, she used to skip classes for therapeutic purposes, but later she could read the lectures with the help of her friends.

Izba used to take part in extra curriculum activities

Omar Ajmal, a Public Relations Officer of BUITEMS University that Izba used to take part in extracurricular activities. Izba’s elder sister Farina Khattak says that Izba used to go to her canola classes often. “Despite this illness, izba never let us know that she has cancer,” she adds.

Izba told, “I will serve my country in the area of Information Technology and make my country proud”.

Dr. Khalid, Izba’s physician, says that her condition is much better than before but at present, she is using the medicine that is being borne by the Government of Balochistan.
