QUETTA: Chief of Gawadar Rights Movement, Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman has accused a provincial minister of taking extortion from the trawler mafia in Gwadar. Addressing a press conference on Monday, the Maulana accused Haji Akbar Askani, the Fisheries Minister of taking extortion from the trawler mafia. There was no immediate response from the minister in this regard.

He said the jobs of the thousands of people of Gwadar were linked with catching fish. He however lamented that the trawler mafia was swallowing job opportunities and the daily bread of the people of Gwadar.

Maulana Hidayat however announced that a long march from Gwadar to Quetta would be launched in March this year. He said the participants of the march would demand the provision of rights for the entire province and Gwadar.

In response to a question, he said that the Hindu community of Gwadar has agreed not to sell wine in the port city. “If someone tried to sell, we will close shops through masses’ power”, he warned. Maulana Hidayat stated that the people of Gwadar would not tolerate any illegal activity and will never compromise over their due rights.
