Pakistan Muslim League (N) President, Shehbaz Sharif is likely to be the interim Prime Minister, if the no-confidence motion succeeded against PM Imran Khan. Sources within the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) revealed that the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) supremo, Asif Ali Zardari has also endorsed the nomination of Shehbaz Sharif as the next premier. The government camp has however downplayed all statements and pressure on the part of opposition political parties regarding the no-confidence motion.
The nine-party anti-government alliance and the PPP have developed a consensus to overthrow Prime Minister Imran Khan. PDM and PPP have also agreed on a number of issues relating to tabling the no-confidence motion and post-political scenario, a central leader of PPP told Quetta Voice. He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media.
“Things almost finalized and no deadlock within the opposition”, he asserted.
“Entire system may be wrapped up”, Sheikh Rasheed
For the first time since the establishment of PTI led government, Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed, the vocal interior minister has warned that if the opposition did not show flexibility, the entire system would be wrapped up. Although, he ruled out the military takeover.
PDM Chief Maulana Fazal ur Rehman also discussed the prevailing political situation with PML (N) Chief Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif via telephone. Maulana apprised the former Prime Minister about the progress made regarding tabling of the no-confidence motion.
Maulana has repeatedly claimed to have completed the number of votes to make the no-confidence motion a success. PPP central leader, Syed Khursheed Shah also reached Islamabad to hold meetings with other opposition parties regarding the tabling of the no-confidence motion against the PM.
Special concessions for PML Q by opposition
The opposition parties have also been holding talks with allies of the PTI especially the Pakistan Muslim League (Q). The opposition parties trying to improve relations between PML N and PML Q, the Chaudhary of Gujrat to make sure removal of the PTI government.
The opposition parties are also considering to table a no-confidence motion against Speaker National Assembly, Asad Qaisar to avoid any trouble in tabling the motion against the premier. “Everything is on cards”, Ahsan Iqbal, the former interior minister said.
He said the PML N was consulting all opposition parties to make the no-confidence motion a success. Allies of PTI are also concerned about their political future if they stick to Imran Khan’s alliance, Mr. Iqbal concluded.
