Blast on Jail Road Sibi martyred 5 security personnel, dozens injured

At least five security personnel were martyred and over two dozen were injured in a blast in Balochistan’s Sibi city on Tuesday. The bomb went off on the occasion of the concluding ceremony of the historic Sibi Mela.

”We are providing medical treatment to 28 injured of the blast”, Dr. Ghulam Sarwar, the Medical Superintendent of Civil Hospital Sibi said. The condition of the three injured is serious, he said. The MS informed that 16 of the injured were security personnel. The outlawed Islamic State (IS) claimed the responsibility for the attack.

Policemen were also among the injured

“We are investigating the nature of the blast”, a police official said. He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media. The injured were rushed to district headquarters hospital Sibi for medical treatment. An emergency was imposed in the hospital to provided medical treatment to the injured of the blast. The blast was heard throughout the city, causing panic.

President Dr. Arif Alvi had arrived in Sibi for the closing ceremony of the historic Sibi Mela 

President Dr. Arif Alvi was also in the city for the concluding ceremony of the Mela. Strict security measures were adopted by the administration on the eve of Sibi Mela. Besides police and lives, personnel of frontier corps was also deployed in the city to maintain the law and order situations.

Bizenjo strongly condemns the attack

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo has strongly condemned the terrorist attack. In a statement issued after the blast, Mr. Bizenjo directed the hospital staff to make sure provision of better health facilities to injured of the blast. He said the perpetrators of the blast would be brought to justice.

Sibi blast has come six days after a bomb explosion claimed three lives on Fatima Jinnah Road. A deputy superintendent of police was also among the dead. Two members of the Hazara community were also killed in the attack.
