News Desk:

LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (N) leader Hamza Shehbaz has got the support of 199 members of the provincial assembly in the Punjab Assembly on Wednesday night. 199 MPAs of Punjab turned out at a local hotel to support Hamza Shehbaz as the Chief Minister of Punjab.

“People rejected Imran Khan”, Maryam Nawaz, the Central Vice-President of PML N told lawmakers. She said that PTI government had failed to address the issues faced by the masses.

PTI has fielded Chaudhary Pervez Elahi as its candidate for the slot of CM ship in the country’s largest province. Mr. Elahi belongs to the Pakistan Muslim League (Q).

The legality of the session and Hamza’s subsequent “victory” was unclear as the session was held outside the Punjab Assembly and attended only by opposition lawmakers, while neither Speaker Parvez Elahi nor Deputy Speaker Sardar Dost Muhammad Mazari presided it. Furthermore, no notifications regarding the change of session’s venue or Hamza’s “victory” were issued by the Punjab Assembly secretariat.

The session was instead presided by PPP MPA Shazia Abid.
