Governor Balochistan Zahoor Agha resigns

QUETTA: Governor Balochistan, Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha resigned as the Governor of the province on Wednesday evening. The Governor has decided to step down as the constitutional head of the province, an official handout issued to the press said.

The Governor has sent his resignation to the President of Pakistan Dr. Arif Alvi. “My services would be available for the country and nation”, Mr. Agha said in a statement after tendering his resignation.

Governor’s resignation has come after the removal of former Prime Minister Imran Khan through a vote of no confidence by the opposition parties.

Imran Khan had appointed Zahoor Agha as Governor on July 7, 2021

Syed Zahoor Ahmed Agha was appointed as the Governor of Balochistan province on July 7, 2021. Former premier Imran Khan had appointed Zahoor Agha as the Governor of Balochistan after the resignation of Justice (R) Amanullah Khan Yaseenzai.

Zahoor Agha is one of the hard-core workers of the former ruling party i.e. PTI. He has spent more than 15 years as a worker at the party. This was one of the underlying reasons, which prompted the former premier to appoint him as the Governor of Balochistan.

Dissidents within the party had opposed Agha’s appointment

Although, some dissidents within the former ruling party had opposed his appointment as the Governor of Balochistan. Despite the opposition, the former premier had appointed Mr. Agha as the Governor of Balochistan on July 7, 2021.

Governors of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have also tendered resignations from their posts. The two governors belonged to the former ruling PTI.
