Former BPSC Chairman Ashraf Magsi acquitted in a corruption case

QUETTA: Accountability Court acquitted former Chairman Balochistan Public Service Commission (BPSC), Muhammad Ashraf Magsi in a corruption case on Tuesday. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) arrested Ashraf Magsi in May 2016 over charges of corruption, irregularities, and violation of merit in the appointment of officers.

“The accused acquitted over non-availability of evidence while giving him benefit of doubt”, the Judge of the AC, Munir Shahwani announced. NAB had filed a reference against the former Chairman and the country had charged him over illegal appointments on June 7, 2016.

He had misused his powers and with the help of the Deputy, Directors had recommended the recruitment of his close relatives as Head Mistress in Grade 16 on the basis of nepotism which would have caused loss to the exchequer and merit.

The former chairman of Public Service Commission Mohammad Ashraf Magsi, Abida Magsi, Ezra Magsi, Asad Magsi, Abdul Waheed, Sajid Waheed, and Misbah Fatima was arrested by NAB. The judge had reserved the verdict of the reference filed against the individuals and issued the acquittal of Muhammad Ashraf Magsi and others on the ground of lack of evidence.
