LASBELA: Children sought refuge at the top of a hut after their hut-like houses were inundated in Balochistan’s Lasbela district on Tuesday afternoon. Four children carrying a goat sought refuge at the top of a hut.

“We have rescued 50 stranded people in Lasbela”, Naseer Ahmed Nasar, the Director-General Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) said. He said a rescue operation was underway in Lasbela and Jhal Magsi districts to provide timely support to the flood’s affectees. Women and children were also among the rescue people in the Lasbela district, the DG mentioned.

In a video obtained by the Daily Quetta Voice, four children are seen taking refuge at the top of the hut. Beyond their hut, the entire area is flooded. “Water and water everywhere”, Muhammad Ismail Sasoli, a local reporter said.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo directed the concerned authorities and the PDMA to step up efforts to rescue the people stranded in floods. Flash floods unleashed by torrential rains have played havoc in the Lasbela and Jhal Magsi districts of Balochistan. This is the third spell of the monsoon rains.

The death toll in rains-related incidents in Balochistan rose to 104 on Tuesday morning as rescue workers retrieved two more dead bodies from the debris of a mud-walled house in Wadh tehsil of Balochistan.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo directed the authorities to use the government of Balochistan’s helicopter to evacuate the stranded people.

Floods also swept away different portions of the Quetta-Karachi highway and caused the suspension of traffic. Commissioner Kalat Division, Muhammad Dawood Khilji directed the transporters and private vehicle owners to avoid traveling on the national highway.

Long queues of vehicles on either side of the highway were witnessed. Women, children, aged people, and ill people suffered for hours in scorching heat to reach their destinations. Hotels located on the Quetta-Karachi highway were jam-packed with passengers in the aftermath of the suspension of the highway.
