Quetta Karachi highway closed for heavy traffic after floods

Quetta Karachi highway was blocked for heavy traffic on Friday as flash floods unleashed by heavy rainfall swept away Lunda bridge in the Uthal area of Lasbela district. The fresh spell of monsoon has wreaked havoc in the Lasbela, Killa Abdullah and Killa Saifullah districts of Balochistan.

“We have stopped heavy traffic on Quetta Karachi highway”, Dawood Khilji, the Commissioner Kalat Division said in a statement. He said the highway was opened for small vehicles. Mr. Khilji however cautioned the people to avoid unnecessary traveling on the highway, which links Balochistan with Sindh province.

Flash floods completely swept away Lunda bridge at Uthal tehsil of Lasbela district. However, no human loss was reported as a result of the damage.

The death toll rose to 182 in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan because of floods and heavy rainfall. The dead include 56 children, 45 women and 81 men, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) sources told Daily Quetta Voice.

The floods have also left around 1000 people injured across Balochistan.
