Chief Secretary Balochistan Abdul Aziz Uqailli has said that “the country is suffering from poliovirus and the time to clean up is near, the day is not far when Pakistan will join the polio-free countries”. The province has not reported any polio cases in the last 18 months.
“Polio workers in the entire country, including Balochistan, have made sacrifices, and their services are appreciated”, Abdul Aziz Uqailli the Chief Secretary of Balochistan stated.
He expressed these thoughts at the Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering, and Management Sciences (BUITEMS) on the occasion of World Polio Day, Balochistan on Friday.
Addressing the audience Mr. Uqailli said that polio makes children disabled and it also kills them. Polio was eradicated from the world earlier but unfortunately, it still exists in Pakistan and Afghanistan he added.
The Chief Secretary said that we are trying our best to eradicate polio from Balochistan and fortunately no cases are reported in the last 18 months. “The goal is to increase all resources from 65% to 98% to eradicate polio.
The cash award will also be given to the workers who showed their best performance. The Chief Secretary expressed concern about the presence of poliovirus in KPK and said that due to KPK and Afghanistan, Balochistan is still at risk.
On this occasion, Syed Zahid Shah, Head of Polio Emergency Center in Quetta, Member of Balochistan Assembly Nasrallah Zehri and Director General Health Noor Qazi, and others spoke.
Later, he also awarded the Polio Workers for playing an excellent role in the eradication of polio from the province Socio-political activists, scholars, and journalists distributed prizes among the workers.
