CHAMAN: At least six civilians were killed and 30 were injured when Afghan forces fired rockets into Pakistani territory on Sunday evening. An armed clash between Pakistani and Afghan forces erupted at the border on Sunday morning. Both sides used heavy weapons. However, in the evening, rockets fired by Afghan forces landed on the civilian population, which left five people dead and over two dozen injured. Dr. Abdul Malik Achakzai, the Medical Superintendent of Chaman hospital confirmed that five dead bodies of civilians were brought to the hospital.

The injured were rushed to the district headquarters hospital Chaman for medical treatment. An emergency was imposed in the hospital to provide medical treatment to those injured in the clashes. Parliamentary leader Awami National Party (ANP), Asghar Khan Achakzai, and other political and tribal elders reached the hospital.

ISPR says :

Afghan Border Forces opened unprovoked and indiscriminate fire of heavy weapons including artillery/ mortar onto the Civilian population in Chaman, Balochistan causing Shahadat of 6 x Civilians with another 17 x individuals being injured, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said on Sunday evening. Pakistani border troops have given a befitting albeit measured response against the uncalled-for aggression but avoided targeting innocent Civilians in the area, the military’s media wing stated. Pakistan has also approached Afghan authorities in Kabul to highlight the severity of the situation and demanded strict action to obviate any such recurrence of the incident in the future.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo expressed serious concern over rocket attacks from the Afghan side at the Pak-Afghan border Chaman. In a statement issued after the attack, Mr. Bizenjo directed the administration to tighten security and protect the civilians. He also directed the hospital staff to make sure of timely medical treatment for the injured in the clashes.

Seriously injured people were brought to the civil hospital Quetta for medical treatment. “We have received five seriously injured patients from Chaman”, Waseem Baig, the Spokesman for civil hospital Quetta said. He said two dead bodies were also brought to the hospital. An emergency was imposed in the trauma center civil hospital to provide timely medical treatment to the injured by the attack.
