QUETTA: Political leaders, economic experts, intelligentsia, members of civil society and the legal fraternity called for supremacy of the constitution and rule of law to bring an end to the prevailing political and economic crisis in the country. They delivered stormy speeches at a seminar “Reimagining Pakistan” at the Naseer Khan Noori Complex in the Ayub Stadium Quetta on Saturday. Nawabzada Haji Lashkari Raisani, the Chief of the Balochistan Peace Forum (BPF) organized the seminar to discuss ways and means to pave the way for a political settlement of issues relating to the country and Balochistan.
Lawmakers should debate serious issues of the country: Khaqan Abbasi
“Lawmakers at national assembly and senate have to debate serious issues, today Pakistan is facing”, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, the former prime minister and the central leader of the Pakistan Muslim League (N) said. He called for an end to the politics of maligning each other and urged all political forces to put their heads together to bring the country out of the prevailing economic crisis.
Former federal finance minister Miftah Ismail portrayed a bleak and frustrating picture of the country’s financial conditions. “The country is under the clutching of heavy debts and the common man is paying the price every day”, Miftah Ismail lamented. He said that currently over 40 percent of children in Pakistan were stunted because of malnutrition.
Former Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Muhammad Aslam Raisani called for an end to injustices in Balochistan and reiterated the demand for the implementation of the 1940 Pakistan resolution to bring the country out of the prevailing crisis. Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, the former senator said that more than 70 percent youth of Pakistan wanted to go abroad because of financial issues.
Gwadar protesting for a drop of water: Hussain Wadela
Political leaders from Balochistan lashed out at Islamabad for what they called its stepmotherly treatment towards Balochistan. They said the federal government has bypassed the provincial government in all important deals and agreements regarding the Reko Diq gold and copper projects, Gwadar deep sea port, Saindak project, and other multi-billion dollar projects.
“Residents of Gwadar are protesting for a drop of water, and they speak about billions of dollars”, Hussain Wadela, the leader of the Gwadar Haq Do Tehrik said. He strongly criticized the provincial government and security forces for their attitude and policies towards Balochs and especially with regard to the people of Gwadar.
