Staff Reporter:
At least one laborer was killed and another four injured when an under-construction building collapsed in Quetta’s Stewart Road on Tuesday. Police sources said an under-construction building collapsed because of chilly weather and poor construction quality on Stewart Road. Rescue workers from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) reached the spot and the injured were rushed to the civil hospital Quetta for medical treatment.

After hectic efforts, the rescue workers from the PDMA and other nongovernmental organizations retrieved the dead body of the fourth laborer. The dead body was shifted to civil hospital Quetta. Balochistan Minister for mines and minerals, Mobeen Khilji reached the spot and directed the authorities to probe into the incident.

The administrator of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) and other high-level officials reached the spot and inspected the site of the collapsed building. “A case would be registered against the accused for constructing the building in harsh weather”, Mobeen Khilji said. He said action would be taken against the responsible people in this regard.

Residents of the area complained that despite submitting an application with the deputy commissioner Quetta, no action was taken against the responsible people for the construction of the building in harsh weather.
