Barkhan Incident: Sardar Khetran out from jail in triple murder case

Balochistan Provincial Communications and Works (C&W) Minister Sardar Abdul Rehman Khetran has been released from jail on Saturday. His release was ordered yesterday by a local court in Barkhan the other day.

Sardar Khetran was released from district Jail Quetta and brought to his Quetta residence amid tight security. Strict security measures were adopted by the administration to maintain a law and order situation outside the Jail.

Khetran was arrested on February 22nd in Quetta

Mr. Khetran was arrested on February 22 in Barkhan’s triple murder case. Levies force recovered three dead bodies from Haji Kot area of Barkhan in February this year. Khan Muhammad Marri, a local tribesman accused Sardar Khatran of murdering his 2 sons and his wife in Barkhan.

However, Khan Muhammad Marri’s wife Granaz was found alive. The minor girl killed mysteriously in Haji Kot was yet to be identified. The Edhi foundation buried the teenage girl as heirless. Murree Ittihad also staged a three-day protest sit-in in Quetta.

Later, during the police search operation, one of his daughters and four sons from Barkhan were recovered and brought to Quetta on which Murree Ittehad ended their protest. The Marri Ittehad had demanded the registration of an FIR against Sardar Khetran in connection with the killing of three people.

However, before the arrest, provincial minister Sardar Abdul Rahman Khatran not only denied the accusation but also told that if the government forms a commission to investigate the case, he is ready to help them in the investigation.

Rights groups and members of civil society had demanded the Balochistan government probe into the incident and bring the perpetrators to book.

JIT has yet to submit a report

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo ordered the establishment of a joint interrogation team (JIT) to probe into the incident. In the JIT, only senior police officers were part of the team. However, no officers from the intelligence agencies were included in the JIT team.
