The Supreme Court of Pakistan granted bail to the Haq Do Tehreek (HDT) Chief, Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman on Thursday. A three-member bench of the apex court headed by Mr. Justice Sardar Tariq Masood, Mr. Justice Ameenuddin Khan and Mr. Justice Muhammad Mazhar granted bail to the Maulana.
The Supreme Court also ordered Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman to submit two surety bonds of Rs 3 lakh each. Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman’s bail was first rejected by the local court and later by the Balochistan High Court.
Senator Kamran Murtaza appeared before the court
The leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami, through Senator Kamran Murtaza Advocate, filed the bail of Maulana Hidayat-ur-Rehman in the Supreme Court after his arrest.
Justice Sardar Tariq Masood said that why the arrest of the Maulana in the premises of court was not challenged. On this, Kamran Murtaza said that the decision of the Supreme Court had not come at that time that the arrest under judicial cover would be illegal. This principle was determined by the Supreme Court in the Imran Khan arrest case.
Police accused Maulana of killing a policeman in Gwadar
Police had arrested Maulana Hidayat ur Rehman in the murder case of a policeman and inflicting damages to public and private properties during protest demonstrations in Gwadar. The charge was vehemently denied by the Maulana and other leaders of the HDT.
Maulana spent months in the jail and his bail application was repeatedly rejected by courts in Balochistan.
