A policeman guarding an anti polio team was martyred in Balochistan’s Mastung district on Friday. Police sources said unknown accused opened fire in the Karez Sor area of Mastung.

The dead body of the policeman was shifted to the Shaheed Nawab Ghous Bakhsh Raisani hospital. The attackers escaped unhurt from the spot. Police and senior administration officials reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway.

Protesters block Quetta-Karachi highway against the incident

Scores of citizens of Mastung and relatives of the martyred policeman blocked the main road to protest against the incident. They were demanding an immediate arrest of the culprits involved in the attack.

The protesters blocked traffic on main Quetta-Karachi highway and demanded the arrest of the accused. Deputy Commissioner Mastung, Yasir Dashti, tribal elder Sardar Kamal Khan Bangulzai and others reached the spot and held negotiations with the protesters.

The shopkeepers also pulled down their shutters in Mastung city to mourn the killing of the policeman guarding the polio team. Security was tightened in and around Mastung after the protest and the firing incident.

An anti polio campaign is underway in Quetta and other parts of Balochistan. The seven day campaign was launched by the health department to provide polio drops to children under the age of five years.

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo strongly condemned the attack and directed the administration to arrest the culprits behind the attack. In a statement issued after the attack, Mr. Bizenjo said the perpetrators of the terrorist attack would not be spared and they would be brought to justice.

Mastung is considered to be one of the most sensitive districts of Balochistan. In the past, militants operating in the area have repeatedly targeted security forces and Shia Hazara.

  1. This country is good enough to kill innocent people , fire at protestors, drag unarmed civilians in streets. Punjab and Islamabad Police has set new records of shamelessness ( بے غیرتی) by dragging women in their houses and in streets. This is in reality the Punjabi Nationalists culture
    The same Police and its LEAs are scared of the armed militants and terrorists.
