QUETTA: An attack on a polio team in the city left two policemen martyred on Tuesday afternoon. Police sources said unknown accused opened fire at policemen guarding the polio team members in the Killi Shalam area of the city.

The firing left two policemen martyred on the spot. The attackers escaped unhurt from the spot. Police said the polio team members were unhurt in the attack. The dead bodies of the policemen were rushed to the civil hospital Quetta.

Police and other law enforcement agencies personnel reached the spot and started an investigation into the incident. “Polio campaign is underway and not suspended”, an official of the Balochistan health department said. He said the government has provided sufficient security to make the campaign a success.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack. In the past, the militants have targeted the polio team in the Quetta, Chaman, Pishin and Loralai districts of Balochistan.

CM Bizenjo condemns the attack

Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Quddus Bizenjo strongly condemned the attack and directed the police to arrest the culprits behind the attack. In a condemnation statement, Mr. Bizenjo said some elements were trying to disrupt the traditional peace of Balochistan through such terrorist attacks. He said the perpetrators of the attack would be brought to justice soon.
