Duki: In a tragic incident, at least two coal miners lost their lives after a toxic gas leak inside a coal mine in the Chamalang area of Duki district, Balochistan.

According to reports, the miners were working deep inside the mine when poisonous gas accumulated, causing them to lose consciousness. Rescue teams and fellow workers rushed to the site and launched an operation, but both miners were found dead.

Officials stated that such incidents are often caused by the buildup of methane or other toxic gases, which are common hazards in coal mining operations. Similar accidents have repeatedly occurred in the region due to poor ventilation systems and lack of safety measures.

The bodies of the deceased miners were later recovered and shifted to a nearby hospital before being handed over to their families.

Ongoing Safety Concerns

Coal mining in Balochistan, particularly in areas like Duki and Chamalang, remains highly dangerous. Frequent accidents are linked to:

Accumulation of toxic gases

Inadequate safety protocols

Lack of modern detection equipment

Poor enforcement of mining regulations

Experts highlight that hundreds of miners face life-threatening risks daily, and many incidents go underreported.

Need for Urgent Reforms

This latest incident once again underscores the urgent need for:

Improved mine safety standards

Proper ventilation systems

Gas detection technology

Strict monitoring by authorities

Authorities are expected to investigate the incident, while labor groups continue to demand better protection and compensation for miners working under hazardous conditions.
