QUETTA: Unknown accused opened fire at a polio team in Quetta’s Qambrani road on Saturday afternoon. Policemen guarding the polio workers quickly retaliated and injured the attacker. However, police sources said the attackers managed to take away the attacker from the spot.

Polio workers and policemen were unharmed in the attack. A huge contingent of police reached the spot as an investigation into the incident went underway. A search operation was also launched against the culprits involved in the attack.

Security was tightened in and around Quetta, especially for the polio workers after the attack. This incident has come three days after two policemen guarding a polio team were martyred in the Nawan Killi area of Quetta.

The anti-polio campaign is underway across Balochistan despite the attack. The campaign would continue till August 8, an official of the health department Balochistan said. He requested anonymity since he was not authorized to speak to the media.
