Monitoring Desk:

A strong earthquake jolted Hirat and other western cities of Afghanistan on Saturday. The earthquake was recorded 6.2 on the reactor scale.

The USGS said the epicentre was 40 kilometres (25 miles) northwest of the city of Herat, and was quickly followed by three aftershocks of magnitude 5.5, 4.7 and 6.2.

Roads and streets were jampacked with people in Hirat. Initially, there were no reports of casualties.
